Day 31 (February 7, 2000)
Loading up for the backwaters ferry from Kollam (Quilon) to Alappuzha. This trip today was really one of the best things so far during this visit to India, and I'm sending along more photos to be included in today's gallery. Maybe it's because it was so relaxing... after the bustle of general Indian life, this 8-hour ride through a lazy ocean backwater was just the ticket. The scenery was gorgeous, river life is picturesque, and the other travelers on my boat were fascinating people, from a woman researching fair trade goods for a coffee shop she's opening in Savanna, Georgia, to a professional photographer who was taking black and white polaroids of the trip.
