Day 3 (Monday: January
10, 2000)
Accessing
the Internet in a Delhi slum community next to NIIT.
One
division of NIIT, India's largest Information Technology company,
abuts a Delhi slum. They have placed a touch screen in a hole in
the wall with access to the Internet, to see what happens. The adults
won't even touch it but the kids have learned, without ANY training
at all, how to use word processing and paint programs and how to
access the Internet. I very much enjoyed my day interviewing NIIT
executives about this project and their other work, and will look
forward to writing much more about it when I come home.
