About
Carla King
Carla
King is a San Francisco-based travel and technology writer and author
of The American Borders
Dispatches created in 1995, one of the first travelogues on
the Internet. Continuing her realtime adventure series, she sent
missives to the web during her 1998 journey from Beijing to the
Tibetan border and back in The
China Road Dispatches. She's been featured in a number of TV
and radio shows, print and online magazines, and often speaks on
travel and technology. Go to the Logbook for a complete list of
events and media, and a personal diary of activities.
Previous
works include a guidebook to mountain biking the Alpes-Maritimes
(Cycling the French Riviera), stories about a bicycle ride from
Dakar, Senegal to Abdijan, Ivory Coast (a good story about this
trip appears in Travelers' Tales: Food), and bicycle and motorcycle
trips through Europe and Jamaica. She has also penned stories for
many travel magazines and newspaper travel sections.
When
she's not writing about being on the road, Carla writes about technology
for magazines like PC World, bizTraveler, and Women's Wire. Her
work with Verbum, Inc., keeps
her up to date on the latest in multimedia, and she continues to
freelance as a technical writer for electronics firms in Silicon
Valley.
